Elementary Sports Academy
1st Grade - 6th Grade
The Elementary program offers your child an unparalleled opportunity for growth in this new period of life. We offer an environment that encourages deep academic exploration, collaboration, and critical thinking.
Expanding knowledge and thinking
In the elementary years, children begin to ask bigger questions and think more deeply about the world.
Education at this stage must expand accordingly, beyond isolated subjects into interconnected understanding. Our program supports this through exploration, collaboration, and academic challenge.
Movement is an essential part of the AMI Montessori Elementary experience, supporting both physical development and academic focus. In keeping with the philosophy of Maria Montessori, we recognize that children learn best when mind and body work together. Our students participate in a wide variety of sports and activities—including tennis, soccer, Latin dance, flag football, basketball, and volleyball—building coordination, strength, teamwork, and confidence.
This intentional integration of movement promotes health and well-being while strengthening focus, perseverance, and a joyful, energized approach to learning.
Students build:
Strong academic skills across subjects
Critical thinking and problem-solving
Collaboration and communication
Independence in managing their work
A Broader View of Learning
Lessons are connected across subjects, helping students see how ideas relate and build meaning. They are presented as “big ideas” that spark curiosity and exploration.
From there, students pursue work independently and collaboratively, researching, discussing, and refining their understanding over time.
As Maria Montessori emphasized, “The greatest sign of success for a teacher…is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.’” This philosophy is at the heart of our AMI Montessori approach. Our Montessori-certified guides are not limited to a single specialty, nor do we rely on separate “specialist” instructors for subjects like art, P.E., or music. Instead, they bring a broad, integrated knowledge across all areas, guiding each child to explore new interests, ask meaningful questions, and pursue deeper understanding through independent research and discovery.
What students develop
Daily Sports & Movement
Sports are an integral part of the Elementary program.
We believe daily movement is essential to successful academic development, as the body and mind work together to support learning and growth. Students participate in a variety of sports and activities each day, including tennis, soccer, flag football, volleyball, archery, pickleball, badminton, and more.
Growing responsibility
Students grow not only academically, but also socially and intellectually.
They learn to think critically, organize their work, and take responsibility for their contributions within a group.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
A Montessori Elementary “going out” is a carefully planned, hands-on experience where students take their learning beyond the classroom walls into the wider community. Rooted in the philosophy of Maria Montessori, these excursions allow children to connect abstract concepts to real-world experiences, deepening their understanding in subjects like science, history, geography, and the arts.
For example, students might visit a local museum to study ancient civilizations or explore a botanical garden to observe ecosystems firsthand. During these trips, children practice independence, collaboration, and observation, often preparing research questions or projects in advance and reflecting on discoveries afterward. Each “going out” is designed not only to enrich academics but also to nurture curiosity, responsibility, and a sense of connection to the world around them.
Developing flexibility, resilience and grit
Children become adaptable and resilient when they are encouraged to work through challenges independently. With thoughtful support from an adult, your child can usually find the solution that feels right and meaningful to them.
Ready to move up
We have both lower (1st thru 3rd grade) and upper elementary (4th thru 6th grade) classrooms. Once a child graduates 6th grade, they are ready to enter our Junior High program.
