Elementary Sports Academy
1st Grade - 6th Grade
Our AMI Montessori Elementary Program offers a dynamic, child-centered education grounded in the principles of Maria Montessori and upheld by the standards of the Association Montessori Internationale. Designed for children ages 6–12, this program nurtures intellectual curiosity, independence, and a deep sense of responsibility within a thoughtfully prepared environment. We teach the foundations of Cosmic Education—spanning mathematics, language, science, history, geography, and the arts. Students move from concrete exploration with materials to abstract understanding, building strong academic foundations alongside critical thinking and group collaboration skills. Guided by specially trained AMI educators, children are empowered to ask big questions, pursue meaningful work, and develop confidence, integrity, and a lifelong love of learning.
Active bodies, focused minds.
Movement is an essential part of the AMI Montessori Elementary experience, supporting both physical development and academic focus. In keeping with the philosophy of Maria Montessori, we recognize that children learn best when mind and body work together. Our students participate in a wide variety of sports and activities—including tennis, soccer, Latin dance, flag football, basketball, and volleyball—building coordination, strength, teamwork, and confidence. Whether serving on the tennis court, collaborating on the soccer field, moving rhythmically in dance, or working together in team sports, elementary students engage their bodies with purpose throughout the day. This intentional integration of movement promotes health and well-being while strengthening focus, perseverance, and a joyful, energized approach to learning.
Guides who Inspire Independent Learners.
As Maria Montessori emphasized, “The greatest sign of success for a teacher…is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.’” This philosophy is at the heart of our AMI Montessori approach. Our Montessori-certified guides are not limited to a single specialty, nor do we rely on separate “specialist” instructors for subjects like art, P.E., or music. Instead, they bring a broad, integrated knowledge across all areas, guiding each child to explore new interests, ask meaningful questions, and pursue deeper understanding through independent research and discovery.
Inspired by Wonder
Authentic learning happens when children are deeply engaged in meaningful work, not when they are passively completing one-size-fits-all assignments. In the Montessori Elementary environment, inspired by the vision of Maria Montessori, lessons are designed to ignite curiosity and spark imagination. We use Cosmic Education to teach, presenting a grand, interconnected vision of the universe that helps children understand how all subjects—and all people—are linked within a larger story. Through powerful storytelling, hands-on materials, and interdisciplinary exploration, students are invited to ask big questions about the universe, humanity, and their place within it.
Rather than limiting learning to a prescribed outcome, we encourage children to pursue research, collaboration, and independent projects that reflect their individual interests and developmental readiness. With the guidance of a trained Montessori educator, each child moves from wonder to investigation to discovery—building critical thinking, responsibility, and a deep sense of ownership over their education. In this way, curiosity is not only welcomed; it is the driving force behind purposeful, joyful, and lasting learning.. Curiosity is championed in our Elementary, and your child is encouraged to explore concepts to a level of detail only limited by his imagination.
Learning Beyond the Classroom.
A Montessori Elementary “going out” is a carefully planned, hands-on experience where students take their learning beyond the classroom walls into the wider community. Rooted in the philosophy of Maria Montessori, these excursions allow children to connect abstract concepts to real-world experiences, deepening their understanding in subjects like science, history, geography, and the arts.
For example, students might visit a local museum to study ancient civilizations, explore a botanical garden to observe ecosystems firsthand, attend a historical site to bring timelines to life, or engage with local artisans to learn about craftsmanship and culture. During these trips, children practice independence, collaboration, and observation, often preparing research questions or projects in advance and reflecting on discoveries afterward. Each “going out” is designed not only to enrich academics but also to nurture curiosity, responsibility, and a sense of connection to the world around them.
Designed around your child’s growth.
Elementary-aged children naturally seek social connection, forming friendships and engaging with their community. Why confine them to rows of desks when they learn best through interaction? In our Montessori Elementary program, lessons are given in small groups, and children collaborate on projects and independent research. Studies show Montessori students outperform peers in academics, social skills, and problem-solving, highlighting the power of learning that is both social and self-directed.
Learning in context for deeper understanding
Rather than separating subjects into isolated parts of the day, children develop a deeper understanding by learning concepts within meaningful context. The foundation of study begins with the Great Lessons — powerful, impressionistic stories that introduce the “big picture” of astronomy, earth science, geography, physics, biology, history, anthropology, cultural studies, language, mathematics, music, and art. True learning takes place when children understand not only what they are learning, but why, inspiring them to continue exploring and discovering independently.
Developing flexibility, resilience and grit
Children become adaptable and resilient when they are encouraged to work through challenges independently. With thoughtful support from an adult, your child can usually find the solution that feels right and meaningful to them.
Learning as its own reward
We believe children are capable of remarkable growth and hold high expectations for each learner. While external rewards may motivate briefly, lasting motivation comes from experiences that build confidence, independence, and a genuine belief in one’s own abilities — inspiring a child to do their very best for a lifetime.
Prepared and confident
The Elementary program is designed to develop students’ skills, independence, and self-confidence, empowering them to take ownership of their learning. As children gain an understanding of the world’s richness and complexity, they begin to recognize their role and responsibility within it.
Ready to move up
We have both lower (1st thru 3rd grade) and upper elementary (4th thru 6th grade) classrooms. Once a child graduates 6th grade, they are ready to enter our Junior High program.
